Dog Resort & Retail Boutique Manager

Jollytails Resort in Halifax Regional Municipality, NS

Jollytails Resort is a busy dog daycare, boarding, grooming and training facility located in Bayers Lake. It is also home to our popular pet boutique retail store, featuring high-quality foods, toys, treats and accessories. We are a one-stop dog resource for pet pawrents. 

We are currently looking for our next allstar team member to join us in the role of Resort Manager. This exciting role is a perfect fit for an experienced business leader who loves everything dog related. In this role, you will oversee a team of 15 staff members while running the day to day operations of the facility, supported by a Director of Operations and working closely with our many wonderful clients (on both four and two legs!).

Responsibilities

Here is a brief overview of the main responsibilities for the Resort Manager.

Human Resources and Scheduling

  • The Resort Manager is involved in a variety of Human Resources tasks including recruiting, hiring, training and supervising staff.

Retail and Front of House Operations

  • The Resort Manager is responsible for the retail store and reception area / lobby.

Customer Service

  • Maintain good customer relations and high standards for customer service.

Building and Assets

  • Ensure the building structure and business equipment is safe and operational and report any issues to Director of Operations. This may include HVAC systems; doors and gates; turf, floor, crates, kennels, appliances, technology etc.

Animal Care

  • The Resort Manager must ensure that the health, safety, and wellbeing of all animals in our care is considered top priority.

Reporting to Director of Operations, Owner 

  • The Resort Manager is responsible for communicating vital information to the Director of Operations.

Special Projects and Other Duties

  • Managers are responsible for special projects and other duties as assigned

Qualifications

Skills & Competencies
The successful candidate will bring a wide range of skills and qualifications to this role:

  • Sales: Grow retail sales, lead and inspire retail staff to continually improve sales.

  • Critical / Analytical Thinking and Decision-making: Ability to evaluate scenarios and execute decisions that consider the wellbeing of animals in our care, reputation of the business and fiscal implications.

  • Delegation: Managers must have strong delegation skills, tapping into the skills and experience of their supervisors and staff to delegate duties in a smart, effective, and role appropriate manner.

  • Communication: The manager must be able to communicate efficiently, effectively and positively with customers, staff and senior management.

  • Customer service: The manager leads by example, providing the highest level of customer service that will inspire their team to provide the same.

  • Dependability: The manager must be able to keep commitments to come into work and take care of all necessary tasks.

  • Leadership: The store manager must be a good leader that can motivate the staff to do their best job.
